01:About Yew Wah
Yew Wah international education is built upon the many decades of experience of Yew Chung International School in offering quality international education in Hong Kong and mainland China. Professor Paul Yip Kwok-wah and Dr Betty Chan Po-king have founded the Yew Wah series of schools with a passion to bring international education to mainland Chinese students. Yew Wah International Education Centre was set up in Shanghai in 1998, and the first Yew Wah International Education School (YWIES) was founded in Yantai in 2000. Yew Wah continued to extend its education services by starting up Yew Wah International Education Kindergartens (YWIEK) and Yew Wah Infant and Toddler Education Centre (YWITEC) in Chongqing, Shenzhen, Beijing, Rizhao and Qingdao. In 2012, Yew Wah initiated the “B&P International Education Park” project in Yizhuang, Beijing where YWIES Beijing opened in 2016. YWIES Guangzhou in Huadu, YWIES Shanghai Lingang in Pudong and YWIES Tongxiang in Zhejiang opened in September 2014, 2015 and 2017 respectively.
02:Yew Wah International Kindergarten Curriculum
The Yew Wah Early childhood Education Research and Development Centre has developed a unique international education curriculum for children aged between 0 and 6, which takes reference of advanced researches, early childhood education philosophies and practices locally and worldwide. The curriculum of YWIEK, therefore, looks carefully at the individual development of each child, considers their needs, their interests, and plans a challenging and enjoyable experience across all the domains of learning and development with appropriate early learning goals, including:
Consistent daily routines, various structured and project-approach initiatives, purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities are offered to support and extend children’s learning and development, based on their interests and needs. Parents also play a key role in working with us to support their young children.
03:Daily Life and Routine
Daily life covers domains of development on personal, social, emotional, physical, and language aspects.
04:How Children Learn Chinese and English
Every early childhood classroom has a teaching partnership of a qualified Western and Chinese teacher. If your child develops well in his/her first language (for example Chinese), then it is prime time to expose your child to an additional language. The Yew Wah English curriculum and classroom setting enables your child’s first language to be well supported and further developed while he/she is acquiring an additional language (such as English).
Children learn an additional language in their own time and own pace just as they did their first language. There should be no pressure on the children to speak the additional language before they are ready; however their chance to learn it increases when they communicate with the Western teacher.
05:Learning Environment
The learning environment plays a significant role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning. Yew Wah offers a rich, child-friendly and nurturing environment which supports children’s learning and development. It gives them the confidence to explore and learn in secure and safe, yet challenging, indoor and outdoor spaces.
We offer a multicultural setting for learning and activities, which allows children to gain knowledge and experience of different languages and cultures.
06:Kindergarten’s Services
We offer excellent supporting services to families and take all necessary steps to safeguard children’s welfare. Morning health checks and school bus service are offered. Certified medical practitioners are on duty at all times when children are present and will offer corresponding medical treatment and first-aid service. Children are provided with meals, snacks and drinks that are healthy, balanced and nutritious. We carry out necessary sterilisation measures to promote the good health of children and prevent the spread of diseases.
07:Working with Families
Parents are our unfailing partners. Partnership between the kindergarten and parents is vital for ensuring continuity and coherence for extending learning in the home. We therefore welcome all forms of parent-school interaction and communication, and build an effective platform facilitating exchanges of ideas through parent gatherings, workshops, classroom visits, seminars and the establishment of Parent Organisations. We also provide handbooks that allow dialogues between the teachers and the parents to ensure a quick response to any area of difficulty.
Our teachers will meet parents regularly and explain to them how the learning activities are being conducted in the kindergartens. Portfolios and progress reports are the tools used to explain children’s learning and department.
08:Next Learning Stage after Graduation
Our graduate students can apply local primary school and International schools as they choose.
09:YWIEK Admissions Policy
We are open for applications whole year round. We welcome applicants from the age between 2 and 6 regardless of race, gender, socio-economic status and nationality.
